Fringe Benefit Rates - Springfield

UIS Fringe Benefit rates are calculated annually by various administrative offices at UIUC: UIUC Office of Government Costing, University Accounting & Financial Reporting (UAFR), Risk Management, and other units.

UIS assesses the following fringe benefit rates to their projects:

  • Employee Health, Life, & Dental
  • Termination Vacation & Sick Leave
  • Worker's Compensation
  • Retirement (SURS)
  • Medicare

Fringe benefit rates change at the beginning of each fiscal year and the rates are fixed with carry-forward. After the rates have been calculated, the UIS Grants & Contracts office provides the appropriate university communications to inform the faculty and staff of the new rates that are to be assessed to sponsored projects.

The value of fringe benefit rates is an estimated $1 million in recoveries for UIS.
