6.1.3 Select Bus Charters with Approved Insurance

Policy Statement

If possible and financially feasible, units should contract with vendors that meet the University of Illinois System's insurance requirements. Subcontractors must comply with the same insurance coverage requirements as contractors. Umbrella liability insurance may be used to meet the general liability and charter vehicle requirements.

Procedure

To select bus charters with approved insurance:

If, because of limited advance notice, no vehicles are available from a system pre-approved vendor, you must still verify that the vendor you choose meets these minimum insurance requirements:
  1. Plan ahead.
  2. Use a bus charter vendor that has been pre-approved by your Purchasing Division. Vendors on the pre-approved list have had their insurance verified by Purchasing staff.
    • Bus (25+ passengers) -- $10,000,000
    • Mini-bus (16-25 passengers) -- $7,000,000
    • Shuttle bus or van (14 passengers + driver) -- $5,000,000
    • Van (8 passengers) -- $2,000,000
    • Sedan -- $1,000,000
  3. If you believe your unit cannot use one of the pre-approved vendors because of your remote location, contact your Purchasing Division.
