19.1.3 Comply with Unit Head Responsibilities for Data Control

Policy Statement

Anyone accessing University business information assumes a legal and ethical relationship (fiduciary responsibility) regarding that information. Such information is to be used only for conducting University business.

Unit heads are responsible for the security of University data used by their unit.


To comply with unit head responsibilities for data control:

  • Implement consistent data security policies and standards.
  • Develop a disaster recovery plan that includes access controls and contingency plans for continuous operation in case of emergencies such as power outages.
  • Develop and maintain an internal security plan to assure data integrity and authentication.
  • Ensure that each system utilized by your unit is used ethically and for its intended purpose.
  • Notify your Unit Security Contact (USC) when employees leave the University or are transferred to another unit.
