Terminate FOAPAL Segments and Index Codes

Before You Begin

When a FOAPAL segment or Index code is no longer needed, units are responsible for submitting a request to University Accounting and Financial Reporting (UAFR) to terminate those codes.

Terminating a FOAPAL segment or Index code is important because it prevents future transactions from posting to that specific code. If a terminated code is used in a general ledger feeder, the entire feeder will fail.

Begin

To terminate an existing FOAPAL segment and Index code:

  1. Determine which FOAPAL segment or Index code you want terminated.
If you need to terminate a sponsored project fund, send an email to your campus Grants and Contracts Office, Post Award.
  1. Review the Guide to Terminating FOAPAL Segments to determine what items need to be verified before codes can be terminated. Pay particular attention to the "Checklist for Terminating FOAPAL Codes."
  2. Submit your request by sending an email to cfoapalmaintenance@uillinois.edu. Include the chart, code value, and type of FOAPAL segment or Index code.
  3. If you have questions, contact UAFR at cfoapalmaintenance@uillinois.edu.
