University of Illinois electronic Research Administration (UI eRA)

UI eRA System Services

Electronic research administration (eRA) is the future for research administration. eRA encompasses everything from searching for funding opportunities to submitting proposals electronically to tracking their progress. SPIN will be available to departmental users when Proposal Tracking is deployed to them. Currently, more than 160+ departmental users, who have been testing the UI eRA system, have access to SPIN.

The UI eRA system also provides access to:

  • SPIN is a funding opportunities database designed to provide up-to-date information on current national and international government and private funding sources. SPIN is not designed to replace other funding search mechanisms such as Illinois Researcher Information Service (IRIS) or Community of Science (COS), but may provide an additional means of identifying funding opportunities. When creating a proposal in the PD module and selecting a funding opportunity using the SPIN database, all necessary forms and fields required by the sponsor will be generated. Also University of Illinois standard information and investigator standard information will be automatically populated. All of the data in SPIN is obtained directly from the sponsoring agencies to ensure the integrity of the information and that all sponsor specific validation mechanisms will be authenticated as the proposal is developed.

  • SMARTS is an electronic matching and funding opportunity notification system which provides investigators with a direct and targeted electronic link to comprehensive, current, and available national and international research funding opportunities. The investigator profile information is collected and used for matching within the SPIN database. Matching is conducted on a daily basis and programs are automatically emailed to individual researchers.
