New Merchants

There are a variety of methods and technologies available for processing payment card transactions. Each method must be approved by OBFS, Merchant Card Services before any transactions are processed. Payment card processing can be broken down into two general methods (channels) of Card Present and Card NOT Present, using three kinds of technologies:

• Terminal
• Point of Sale (POS)
• e-Commerce

New Merchants complete the following:

• Read/Review Policies and Procedures Section 21, Merchant Cards
• Complete the Merchant Card Services enrollment request form
• Complete the Payment Card Data Security Training. Department employees are required to complete training for payment card acceptance approval.
• Review Merchant Card Services webpage PCI DSS Policy for payment card data security.
• Review Employee New Hire Requirements
• Review Training Resources and e-Commerce procedure documents
• Departments accepting payment cards for online giving as deposited revenue into a gift fund must review UIF (University of Illinois Foundation) Credit Card Web Site Overview and Signup Instructions and only use the secure UIF online giving site for accepting gifts via the web.  If the department has already received a gift from the donor (cash, check, credit card number, etc.), submit the Gift Transmittal form to process gift payments. Contact UIF for additional questions on payment card giving for deposit into a gift fund.
