Business Development Services
The Office of Business Development Services (OBDS) provides a variety of services to units and departments on the Chicago campus. Revenue generating activities, educational affiliations, and student placement activities culminate in agreements executed on behalf of the Board of Trustees.
Primary functions of the Office of Business Development Services
- Support campus units by assisting in the development of new business ideas and overseeing the development, negotiation, processing, execution and administration of revenue generating agreements
- Provide early consultation services to help crystallize new business ideas
- Assist with the development of business plans and financial pro-formas for new business ideas
- Support campus units by assisting in the processing and execution of educational affiliation and student placement agreements (internships and externships)
- Assist with contract development (e.g., contract language, limitation of risk, and sound business terms)
- Manage the process from initial opportunity review, through contract negotiation, to contract approval
- Act as liaison between campus units and Legal Counsel, Risk Management, Office of Technology Management (OTM), and other applicable parties
- Direct the bidding process on university activities/operations through Requests for information (RFI) or Requests for Proposal (RFP) leading to revenue-generating agreements.
Agreements processed by OBDS include
- OBDS expanded the types of contracts processed since FY2008, by taking on student placements/affiliation agree,ments and provider enrollment agreements. The total number of contracts processed for the last three (3) years are as follows:
