Remove Data from Electronic Devices

Before You Begin

The University is subject to and complies with the Data Security on State Computers Act which mandates elimination of data from electronic/magnetic storage devices when the device is disposed, transferred, or scrapped.

To remove data from electronic devices:

  1. Consult the State of Illinois Data/Disposal, Recycling, and Computer Hardware list to determine whether the device contains electronic/magnetic storage media and requires data elimination. The list includes such items as cell phones, scanners, photocopiers, and calculators.
  2. Consult Additional Resources below for general information about data elimination, data scrubbing software, and Scrub Labels at your campus.

Springfield - Use FABweb to transfer the item to UIS Information Technology Services. They will wipe the data.
